Why hardware matters
Paint changes the color. Hardware changes the feel. Dated brass knobs on fresh white cabinets look wrong. New pulls — matte black, brushed brass, polished nickel — make the whole kitchen read as new.
What we install
- Knobs and pulls. You pick the style; we drill and mount with clean, even placement.
- Soft-close hinges. No more slamming. A small upgrade with a big daily payoff.
- Filling old holes. Switching from knobs to pulls (or the reverse) means old holes get filled and sanded before paint.
Timed with the paint job
Hardware goes on last, after the finish cures. The doors are still off at that point. That makes placement easy to get right. Add it to your kitchen cabinet painting visit. One trip. One crew. One finished kitchen.

Our process for hardware
Measured twice, drilled once.
- Style consult. We bring samples or you show us what you bought. We talk through what suits your doors.
- Placement plan. We mark every hole location and show you before drilling. You approve the layout.
- Old holes filled. Switching styles often means old holes do not line up. We fill, sand, and hide them before paint.
- Drilling. Jigs for perfect alignment. Every pull straight, every knob centered.
- Hinges. Old hinges come off with the doors. Soft-close hinges go on during rehang.
- Final adjust. Doors aligned, gaps even, everything closing soft.
Knobs vs. pulls
Knobs suit traditional doors and small drawers. Pulls suit modern kitchens and wide drawers — you get a better grip.
Mixing is fine. Knobs on doors, pulls on drawers is the classic combo. All pulls is the modern look.
Size matters. Tiny knobs on big drawers look lost and feel flimsy. We size hardware to the door and drawer dimensions.
Finishes that work
Matte black goes with everything and hides fingerprints. Brushed brass warms up white and green cabinets. Polished nickel is the cool classic. Bronze suits traditional kitchens.
Match the faucet family, not necessarily the exact finish. Close enough reads as planned. Clashing undertones read as a mistake.
We bring finish samples to the visit. Hold them against your cabinet color in your light.
Soft-close hinges
The upgrade you feel every day. No slamming. No pinched fingers. Doors glide shut.
They fit most standard cabinets. We check your hinge type at the visit — some older cabinets need an adapter plate.
Installed while the doors are off for painting, the labor nearly disappears into the job. Added later, it is a separate visit.
What it costs
Hardware itself varies wildly — a knob can cost a few dollars or twenty. We install what you buy, or we source mid-range options for you. Our labor is in the written price.
As an add-on to a paint job, it is the best value in the kitchen. The doors are already off. The holes are already being worked. Do it now.
Hinge types explained
Concealed hinges hide inside the cabinet. Most modern kitchens use them. They adjust in three directions, which is how we get doors perfectly aligned.
Soft-close concealed hinges add the slow-shut mechanism. Same footprint as standard concealed. This is what most upgrades install.
Face-frame hinges mount on the frame front. Older American cabinets use these. They come in soft-close versions too.
Frameless (European) cabinets use a different boring pattern. We check your cabinet construction before ordering anything.
We identify your hinge type at the visit. Then we order the right soft-close version. No guessing, no returns.
When to upgrade hardware
With a paint job is the best time. The doors are off, the holes are being worked anyway, and the labor folds into the project.
On its own works too. If your finish is fine but the knobs are dated, a hardware swap alone refreshes the kitchen in an afternoon.
Before listing the house is smart money. New hardware photographs well and signals an updated kitchen to buyers scrolling listings.
After kids grow up is the fun one. Swap the chipped, sticky knobs of the toddler years for something you actually chose.
